Darlene Fisher, AIE Executive Secretary - ECIS London UK

Darlene Fisher is currently working part time at ECIS as the assistant to the Executive Director and developing educational programmes, studying for an EdD at the University of Bath, and combining this with some consulting for IB, ECIS and private organisations. Her most recent post was as Director of Enka Schools in Istanbul from 2006 - 2012.

Growing up in Singapore and then studying and teaching in many different countries on five continents has given Darlene a wide variety of cultural experiences from which she developed a passion for international educational and intercultural understanding. This has been a focus for studies and research and will continue to affect her life into the future.

Darlene started her career in education in Melbourne Australia as a History teacher, and became an examiner for the Victorian State system, moving into the International Bacalaureate and becoming a History Examiner, Team Leader and Extended Essay marker when working at ABA in Oman.

In school, Darlene progressed from Head of Department to Housemaster (Melbourne Grammar-Australia), to Dean of Students (Prem Tinsulanonda Int.School-Thailand) to Head of High School (EMWS- Mumbai) , and finally Director at Enka Schools Istanbul. All of these positions have allowed Darlene to work with her passion of empowering those around her to believe in themselves and reach for their best in their teaching and learning.

Experience in international schools provided the background for a developing interest in researching intercultural understanding and communication. Darlene's involvement with AIE started when her school was one of 5 schools hosting the conference in Istanbul and since then she has remained committeed to the ideals represented by AIE and seeks to support the group and increase her contribution. Darlene has joined the trustees in January 2011 and was made Executive Secretary in 2012.
